Shock Absorption

Black Diamond Trail Pro Shock Trekking Poles feature a shock absorption system built into each handle to dampen the vibrations that travel up the trekking poles as they strike the ground.  This is especially helpful for rocky terrain.  The system handles hard compressions without bottoming out and prevents rebound for a smooth and comfortable feel.

Control Shock Technology reduces vibrations that would otherwise be felt in your hands and arms.

Handle Design and Comfort

The Black Diamond Trail Pro Shock Trekking Pole handles are ergonomically designed for each hand and provide soft foam non-slip grips with extensions below the shock absorber to provide variability of where you can place your hands.  The handles feature padded 360-degree wrist straps to keep the poles secure and provide comfortable handling.

Testing These Poles

We have used these poles on several day hikes and on one multi-day hike of the Appalachian Trail since we purchased them.  So far, they have performed very well.  My wife and I have used them on flat, sandy, rocky, and muddy terrain.  The tip protectors were a nice addition for the mountainous and rocky areas, as it helped grip better than the carbide tips.  About half-way through the multi-day hike, I lost one of the rubber tips, so I kept the other one on one pole and used the normal tip for the other.  It turned out well because I used the one with the carbide tip for digging in while going up hills.  The poles proved to be robust, as I fell on my poles once.  By the way I fell on them, I thought they were bent, but they weren’t.  The small basket performed well in the muddy terrain, since it kept the poles from sinking.  I tend to put a lot of my weight on poles when I’m going up and down hills.  The shock absorbers were helpful and made climbing and descending much easier.   I don’t remember having to adjust my poles due to slippage.  Overall, both the men’s and women’s poles performed very well.
