Klymit Static V Luxe Sleeping Pad Review

The Klymit Static V Luxe Sleeping pad is an innovative addition to Klymit’s Static line of sleeping pads.  This pad’s wide design makes it comfortable for people of larger stature or those who change position often in their sleep.  The v-chamber design provides exceptional support and comfort through its body-mapping technology.  The twist-pull valves allow for quick and easy inflation and deflation.  Side rail construction helps provide a secure sleep by keeping you centered on the pad so you don’t roll off during the night.  It’s also incredibly inexpensive, costing only $85 – $95, depending on where you purchase it.  Weighing just 26.5 ounces, this lightweight pad is a great option for moderate weather backpacking and camping.

Size

The Klymit Static V Luxe Sleeping pad’s 30 inch width sets it apart from most other pads.  This pad is wide enough for even those of large stature and provides ample space to change positions during the night without having to balance on the pad or hang your arms off.  Although not wide enough to sleep two people, as the manufacturer claims, dimensions of the Static V Luxe are 76 x 30 inches, and provide plenty of area for a comfortable night’s sleep for one person.

Klymit Static V Luxe’s 30 inch wide design is much larger than most other pads.

Comfort

All of Klymit’s Static product line (Static V, Static V Luxe, Static V2, and Insulated Static V) features body mapping technology, which optimizes comfort and performance through its ergonomic design.  The v-chamber design also limits air movement and heat loss, helping to keep you warm during those chilly nights.  One downside to the v-chamber design is that your knees or elbows will slide between the chambers and touch the ground if you kneel on the pad or are on your stomach reading a book.  The Static V Luxe side rails are designed to keep you securely in the center of the pad, helping you to not roll off when you change positions.  The depth of the inflated pad is approximately 3 inches and provides a comfortable distance between you and the ground when lying on your side or back.  With an R-value of 1.3, this pad is best used during the summer or anytime during moderate temperatures.  For cooler temperatures, the Insulated Static V is a great option.

Features

The Klymit Static V Luxe Sleeping pad can be inflated via two mouth valves with about 20-30 breaths.  The twist-pull valves allow for quick and easy inflation and deflation.  With both the valves open, it easily packs down to about the size of a one liter Nalgene bottle (4.5 x 8 inches).  A field repair kit is included with the pad and is built into the stuff sack.  The surface is made of 75 denier polyester material, providing durability and keeping it relatively lightweight.  An anti-microbial laminate on the inside of the pad inhibits growth of microorganisms that can cause material damage and odor.   For those who prefer an extra-wide sleeping pad that is comfortable, built well, and is relatively lightweight, the Klymit Static V Luxe is great choice.
